Job summary

The Pivot Group Network is partnering with Byron Center-based companies seeking Tool Makers. This role focuses on set-up, interpretation of blueprints, and precision tool manufacturing to meet exacting tolerances.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, plus an apprenticeship or 5+ years experience, and be proficient with blueprints, tooling, and CAD/CAM software. Excellent precision and problem-solving skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an apprenticeship or 5+ years relevant experience.
• Proficient in reading blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Strong knowledge of machining processes, tooling, and materials.
• Ability to use precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges).
• Experience with CAD/CAM software for tool design and programming.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate a variety of machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drill presses.
• Interpret blueprints, sketches, and 3D models to determine dimensions, tolerances, and tooling requirements.
• Fabricate, repair, and modify precision tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges.
• Perform close tolerance machining operations, often to within thousands of an inch.
• Select appropriate materials and heat treat tools to achieve desired hardness and durability.
• Inspect finished tools for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to tool performance and manufacturing processes.
• Maintain and calibrate tools and equipment to ensure optimal functionality and accuracy.
