Job summary

Amphenol Communications Solutions (ACS) seeks a Product Development Engineer to advance high-speed, cabled backplanes by integrating mechanical and electrical design. You will work with manufacturing, vendors, and various engineering teams to deliver reliable, high-volume solutions that meet customer needs.

The role requires 5+ years in design, strong CAD skills, GD&T proficiency, and collaboration across disciplines. Travel to manufacturing sites and trade shows is expected.

Qualifications

• MS/BS in Engineering with significant experience in electronics required; PhD preferred.
• Robust understanding of mechanical and electronic systems; CAD tools Creo, SolidWorks.
• Minimum of 5+ years industry experience in design; precision engineering preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; collaboration across stages of product design.
• Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and FEA tools.
• Experience with copper alloys and high-performance engineering plastics; CNC milling or sheet metal fabrication.
• Proficiency with MS Office suite.
• Excellent communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work in a dynamic team environment; manage multiple tasks.
• Travel ~15% domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Understand evolving industry needs and product requirements.
• Participate in automation design with NPI and Machine Design teams for high-volume production.
• Coordinate with Signal Integrity team to ensure mechanical support for electrical performance.
• Ensure mechanical design reliability and conformance to specs.
• Collaborate with software engineers to integrate electronic control systems.
• Assist in material selection (metal, plastic, coatings).
• Develop initial product specifications and technical documentation.
• Interface with customers during multiple project phases and support sales.
• Collaborate with suppliers on DFM, prototyping, tooling, and qualifications; occasional travel.
• Provide technical assistance to marketing and sales teams.
