Job summary

Thorlabs is seeking an Inspector in Newton, NJ to assure vendor and manufacturing compliance with ISO9001 by performing visual and dimensional inspections of precision optics and components. The role includes identifying non-conformances and maintaining records, using calipers and micrometers, sometimes under microscopes, and reporting metrology data.

This position offers a path for growth and requires independent work and strong attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 4 years of manufacturing experience or related technical education.
• High School Diploma or equivalent work experience.
• Ability to learn, understand, and effectively apply sampling plans.
• Capable of reading mechanical drawings and interpret dimensional tolerances.
• Computer literacy using MS Office, Outlook, and ERP software is mandatory.
• Must have the ability to cross train in all areas of the department, including visual and dimensional inspection, data entry, laser engravers, and metrology equipment.
• High attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Identify non-conformances through specified inspection methods.
• Ability to perform extremely detailed visual inspections on intricate and delicate parts occasionally performed under microscopes.
• Inspections are performed efficiently, with attention to detail.
• Measurement metrics are reported to keep track of efficiency and quality.
• Maintain proper records in our Manufacturing Database.
• Low friction interface to peers/vendors/others in interaction with regards to inspection.
• Measuring dimensions of optics with calipers and comparing them to manufacturing drawings.
• Constantly striving to continuously improve the process within the Thorlabs improvement systems.
• Reviewing metrology reports based on pass fail criteria.
• Running and maintaining metrology equipment as needed.
• Create advance reports and presentations.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
