Job summary

Thorlabs seeks an Inspector to assure vendor and manufacturing compliance with ISO9001 standards. You will perform visual and dimensional inspections of precision optics and mechanical components, using calipers, micrometers, and metrology tools.

The role requires meticulous attention to detail and the ability to work with small parts. The position is based in Newton, NJ with potential duties at other Thorlabs locations; HS diploma and 4+ years of manufacturing experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 4 years of manufacturing experience or related technical education.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and interpret dimensional tolerances.
• Skilled in use of handheld measuring tools (calipers, micrometers).
• Proficient with MS Office, Outlook, and ERP software.
• Capable of cross training in inspection, data entry, laser engravers, and metrology equipment.

Responsibilities

• Identify non-conformances through specified inspection methods.
• Perform extremely detailed visual inspections on intricate parts, sometimes under microscopes.
• Maintain accurate records in the Manufacturing Database.
• Measure dimensions with calipers and compare to drawings.
• Review metrology reports and pass/fail criteria.
• Operate and maintain metrology equipment and create advance reports.
