Job summary

IDEX Materials Science Solutions, a unit of IDEX Corporation, seeks an Optical Assembly Technician 2 to perform advanced optical assembly and alignment in a clean-room environment. You will align optics to housings, verify performance with metrology tools, and secure components for reliability and repeatability.

The role requires 3–5 years in precision optical assembly, micron-level alignment, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Technical cert or associate degree in optics/precision manufacturing preferred.
• 3–5 years of hands-on optical assembly/ metrology experience required.
• Demonstrated micron-level alignment accuracy in production settings.

Responsibilities

• Perform active alignment of lenses and optical elements into metal housings using precision fixturing.
• Use metrology tools (autocollimators, alignment telescopes, micrometers) to meet tolerances.
• Adjust decenter, tip, tilt, and axial position to specs.
• Secure optics with adhesives and verify alignment after cure.
• Inspect optics and housings for defects and dimensional accuracy.
• Document alignment data and final build conditions.
• Collaborate with engineering and quality to resolve issues.
