Job summary

IDEX Materials Science Solutions, a unit of IDEX Corporation, is seeking an Optical Assembly Technician 2. The role performs advanced optical assembly and alignment in a controlled clean-room environment, requiring high precision and independent judgment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Technical certification or associate degree in optics, precision manufacturing, or equivalent is preferred.
• 3–5 years of hands-on experience in precision optical assembly, active optical alignment, or optical metrology.
• Demonstrated experience achieving micron-level alignment accuracy in production or lab environments.
• Experience working independently on complex optical assemblies with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

• Perform active alignment of lenses and optical elements into metal housings using precision fixturing.
• Use metrology tools to achieve tight tolerances and verify optical/mechanical performance.
• Adjust decenter, tip, tilt, and axial position to meet specifications.
• Secure optics with adhesives and maintain alignment during cure.
• Inspect optical elements and housings for defects and dimensional accuracy.
• Document alignment data, measurements, and final build conditions.
• Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to resolve complex assembly issues.
• Provide technical feedback for process improvements and design for manufacturability.
