Job summary

Horstman in Sterling Heights, MI is seeking a Mechanical Assembly Technician to join our defense/aerospace manufacturing team. You will assemble complex mechanical systems, inspect and test components, and ensure compliance with MILSTD and IPCA610 standards, supporting safe and reliable defense systems.

The role requires reading blueprints, performing precise assembly, and collaborating with engineers and QA to meet production goals while upholding strict safety and quality controls.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical assembly, preferably in the defense or aerospace sectors.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
• Strong attention to detail and quality control.
• Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and follow strict assembly guidelines.
• Familiarity with MILSTD standards and IPCA610 (general workmanship).

Responsibilities

• Assemble mechanical systems, parts, and components in accordance with engineering drawings, schematics, and military standards (MILSTD).
• Inspect, test, and validate mechanical assemblies to ensure compliance with quality control requirements.
• Operate various hand and power tools to fabricate and assemble components.
• Perform troubleshooting and repairs on mechanical systems as required.
• Collaborate with crossfunctional teams, including engineers and quality assurance personnel, to meet production goals and deadlines.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, including inspection results and rework documentation.
• Follow safety protocols, including adherence to OSHA standards and workplace safety regulations.
