Job description

A Day in the Shop

You clock in at Power Services Group and review the day’s repair tickets. A high‑precision component needs to be brought back to spec. You study the blueprint, verify dimensions with micrometers and gauges, and lay out your plan. The lathe turns first cuts, the vertical mill follows for intricate features, and the grinder finishes surfaces to tight tolerances. Along the way, you document results, flag questionable material, and recommend small process tweaks that will save minutes on the next run. Before moving to assembly, you wipe down the area, check guarding, and confirm your measurements match the print—every time.

What You’ll Do
  • Produce complex, high-accuracy parts to support equipment repairs.
  • Determine dimensions/tolerances using micrometers, gauges, and related precision instruments.
  • Operate manual lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders to meet specification.
  • Evaluate procedures and suggest improvements for efficiency and adaptability.
  • Identify and report defective materials or questionable conditions to management.
  • Keep machines and work area clean, orderly, and compliant with safety procedures.
  • Perform mechanical assembly and disassembly as needed.
  • Own your schedule and priorities while collaborating as a strong team player.
  • Tackle extra assignments and related tasks as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What You Bring
  • Background in a manufacturing machining environment (preferred).
  • Mastery of measuring tools; comfortable holding close tolerances.
  • Blueprint literacy, including metric measurements.
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to follow written procedures.
  • Strong organization and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid math fundamentals.
  • Growth mindset and the ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Trustworthy, dependable, and positive attitude.
  • Regular, consistent attendance with willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and remain seated or standing for extended periods.
  • At least 3 years of hands‑on manual machining experience (preferred).
  • Crane and forklift experience a plus; training available.
