Job description

A day in the shopYou arrive to a fresh stack of prints and a clear production plan. You study the drawings, note the critical dimensions and tolerances, and map out your setup for both the lathe and the mill. You choose the right cutters and workholding, dial in your setup, touch off carefully, and take a first cut. Throughout the run, you verify dimensions with micrometers, calipers, bore/depth gauges, and dial indicators, making fine adjustments to keep every feature within spec. When a tool shows wear, you swap it proactively. If a machine sounds off, you investigate, perform basic maintenance, and get it back to peak performance. Your bench stays tidy, your safety habits are second nature, and you share ideas that make the next job run even smoother. What you'll handleSet up and run manual lathes and manual mills to produce components that meet print and specification requirementsInterpret blueprints, GD&T callouts, tolerances, and related technical documentationInspect parts throughout operations with micrometers, calipers, bore/depth gauges, dial indicators, and similar precision toolsSelect, stage, and care for cutting tools, fixtures, and setups appropriate to each operationTweak tooling and machine settings to sustain dimensional accuracy and surface finishPerform basic preventive maintenance and help troubleshoot equipment issuesUse hand/power tools and shop equipment safely and effectively during setup and minor repairsMaintain an organized work area and follow all safety proceduresRecommend improvements to machining methods, productivity, quality, and material flowWhat you bring5+ years operating manual lathes and mills in a manufacturing or job-shop settingHands-on proficiency with manual turning and manual milling equipmentAbility to read and apply engineering drawings and machining specificationsStrong skill with precision inspection instruments: calipers, micrometers, gauges, and dial indicatorsWorking knowledge of feeds/speeds, tooling selection, and close-tolerance machining practicesSolid shop math for measurements, dimensional calculations, and on-the-fly adjustmentsSafe, competent use of machine tools, hand tools, power tools, fixtures, and related equipmentKeen attention to detail and effectiveness in a fast-paced, team-oriented environmentWhy this roleUse your craftsmanship on challenging, precision builds.
