Job summary

Ryerson in Excelsior, WI is seeking a Laser Operator to safely run laser cutting machines and maximize material yield. You will set up materials, adjust parameters, and ensure high-quality cuts.

The role includes a 2nd shift (2pm–10:30pm), with training on 1st shift for 2–4 weeks. New hires will enroll in a registered apprenticeship during onboarding. Wage ranges from $25–$27.85 per hour, commensurate with experience and education.

Qualifications

• Skills-based assessment required during onboarding.
• Knowledge of material types, thickness, grades and machine flow.
• Understanding of laser operation and material cutting times.
• Ability to adjust laser parameters and nesting programs as needed.
• Capable of performing minor machine maintenance and daily planning.

Responsibilities

• Execute laser scheduling based on priorities from the Production Manager.
• Modify programs and nesting to optimize yield and minimize waste.
• Provide backup support for breaks and absences of other operators.
• Perform routine machine maintenance and coordinate with manufacturers as needed.
• Conduct QA checks on own work and teammates to meet specs.
• Maintain documentation of machine usage and QA records.
