Job summary

Ryerson in Fresno, CA is seeking a Laser Operator to safely run laser cutting machines, set up materials and optimize yields in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.

Successful candidates will join a registered apprenticeship program. Wage ranges from $25 to $27.85 per hour, with starting pay reflecting experience and education. This is a full-time role within Ryerson's Operations team.

Qualifications

• Skills-based assessment including reading, math, inspection & measurement, attention to detail and problem-solving.
• Knowledge of material types, thickness, grades and machine flow.
• Understanding of machine operation and material cutting times.
• Ability to adjust laser parameters and nesting programs as needed.
• Capable of performing minor machine maintenance.
• Able to plan, organize and execute daily production tasks.
• Enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program during onboarding.

Responsibilities

• Execute laser schedule (Flat or Tube) based on priorities from the Velocity Board and Production Manager.
• Modify programs, parameters, and nesting to optimize safety, yield and cut time.
• Perform scheduled Laser Blitz to utilize remnant material with minimal downtime; cover breaks as needed.
• Conduct routine machine maintenance and coordinate with manufacturers as needed.
• Perform quality assurance checks on own work and coworkers' output to meet specs.
• Maintain accurate documentation of machine usage, work orders and QA records.
• Assist with other duties as assigned and adapt to changes.
