Job summary

Ryerson is seeking a Laser Operator for its Laserflex division in the United States. The role focuses on setup, operation, and maintenance of flat laser cutting machines to produce precision metal parts per specifications.

Onboarding includes enrollment in a registered apprenticeship program; candidates should be able to read drawings, interpret orders, and operate safely in a dynamic manufacturing environment. Shift: Mon-Thu 5pm–3:30am; Equal Opportunity Employer.

Qualifications

• Skills assessment including reading, math, inspection and measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving.
• Prior laser experience preferred.
• Basic math skills including conversions.
• Ability to adapt, multitask, and prioritize in a fast-changing environment.
• Excellent oral and written communication.
• Enrollment in an apprenticeship program during onboarding.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC laser cutting machines (Trumpf).
• Perform daily machine startup and shutdown procedures.
• Load and unload raw materials and finished products using forklifts and overhead cranes.
• Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and job orders.
• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of laser equipment and work area.
• Inspect finished parts for accuracy using calipers, micrometers, etc.
• Follow all safety policies and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned as needed.
