Job summary

Horsburgh & Scott in Cleveland, OH is seeking a Gear Cutter, Operator to fabricate precision gears for heavy-duty gearboxes. The role requires setting up and running gear cutting machines such as hobbing, gashing, and shaping, following detailed engineering drawings and specifications.

You will read blueprints, monitor processes, perform in-process quality checks, document results, and collaborate with quality, engineering, and production teams.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in a manufacturing machine shop is preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
• Ability to set up, adjust and operate gear cutting machines.
• Read and interpret blueprints/engineering drawings.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints and work orders to determine machining requirements.
• Set up gear cutting machines with appropriate tools and fixtures.
• Operate hobbing, gashing and shaping processes to cut gears.
• Inspect gears using gear tooth calipers, micrometers and gauges.
• Perform in-process quality checks and document results.
• Maintain cleanliness and perform routine machine maintenance.
• Communicate issues to supervision and collaborate with teams.
• Train and mentor junior operators while following safety procedures.
