Job summary

Brookhaven National Laboratory's Omega Group in Upton, NY, seeks a highly skilled mechanical technician to support assembly, qualification, installation, and commissioning of detector systems for ATLAS HL-LHC Upgrade and LBNF/DUNE experiments. You will work with scientists, engineers, and students across international partners.

Candidates should have a HS diploma plus BS in technical field with years of experience or equivalent, experience in precision assembly, ability to read engineering

Qualifications

  • Requires HS diploma or equivalent plus: a BS in a technical field and 4 years relevant work experience or; a technical institute/AA and 8–10 years relevant experience or; HS cert with 9–11 years relevant work experience.
  • Experience assembling delicate components with configuration control and QA processes.
  • Experience prototyping mechanical components in a machine shop.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, assembly procedures, and documentation.
  • Experience with test stands focusing on cryogenic and mechanical systems.
  • Experience installing, debugging, and operating systems with mechanical and electronic components.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble delicate components in a cleanroom environment.
  • Operate microscopes, wirebonders, linear stages, and metrology machines.
  • Provide specialized mechanical and electrical support.
  • Machining high-precision components and cables.
  • Build mechanical structures for electronics systems.
  • Build cryogenic and mechanical systems.
  • Glue assemblies and record inventory.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and procedures.
  • Assist with test stand construction for cryogenic systems.
  • Install, debug, and operate combined mechanical/electronic systems.
