Job summary

Superior Paving Corp. is seeking a Screed Operator to manage the screed on an asphalt paver, ensuring correct mat thickness, smoothness, crown, and overall pavement quality in Virginia. The role requires precision, teamwork, and a strong understanding of asphalt behavior and grade control.

Candidates should have 2–4 years of paving experience and at least 1 year operating a screed on road projects. Must be able to work overtime, weekends and nights, and comply with safety regulations.

Qualifications

• 2-4 years of paving or construction experience required.
• 1 year experience operating a screed on commercial, roadway or highway paving projects required.
• Strong understanding of asphalt paving principles, grade control systems, and screed mechanics.
• Ability to read and interpret safety documents, plans, and grade.

Responsibilities

• Set up, adjust, and operate the screed to achieve correct mat depth, slope, crown and texture.
• Coordinate with paving foreman, paver operator, and finish roller operator to maintain speed and workflow.
• Install and operate automation devices and sensors for accurate grade and material placement.
• Ensure smooth transitions at joints and approaches; inspect screed components; assist with maintenance.
