Job summary

Sirius Staffing is seeking a Precast Engineer to join our Engineering/Design team, focusing on structural design, fabrication, and erection of precast and prestressed concrete systems.

The ideal candidate has a Civil/Structural background and at least four years of related experience, with familiarity in ETABS, Tekla Tedds, and related software. Onsite work with relocation assistance may be considered for qualified candidates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering required.
• Approximately 4 years of structural engineering experience.
• Experience performing structural calculations, analysis, and design.
• Strong understanding of structural load paths and engineering fundamentals.
• Ability to review technical drawings and communicate engineering requirements to production and field personnel.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural design and analysis of precast and prestressed elements.
• Review shop drawings and erection drawings for accuracy.
• Provide engineering support within the fabrication yard to verify products are manufactured per designs.
• Coordinate with detailing, production, quality, project, and field teams.
• Review RFIs, submittals, design changes, and revisions throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure designs comply with IBC, ACI, and PCI standards.
• Support value-engineering initiatives to improve structural efficiency and cost effectiveness.
• Provide technical support during fabrication and field erection.
• Troubleshoot structural, fabrication, and constructability issues.
• Provide technical guidance to detailing personnel.

Position Overview

Sirius Staffing is seeking a Precast Engineer to join an Engineering/Design team supporting the structural design, fabrication, and erection of precast and prestressed concrete systems.

This position is ideal for a Civil or Structural Engineer with experience in structural design who enjoys working closely with production, detailing, quality, and field teams. Direct precast or prestressed concrete experience is highly preferred; however, candidates with transferable structural engineering backgrounds in buildings, foundations, bridge girders, tilt-up construction, or similar systems are encouraged to apply.

PCI-specific practices can be trained for engineers who bring a strong structural design foundation.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform structural design and analysis of precast and prestressed concrete elements, including beams, columns, wall panels, piles, and related structural systems.
• Design and evaluate specialty concrete systems such as:
  • Underground utility trenches
  • Electrical and communication duct banks
  • Deep foundation systems
  • Precast and prestressed piles
• Prepare and review structural engineering calculations.
• Review shop drawings and erection drawings for accuracy, constructability, and alignment with design intent.
• Provide engineering support within the fabrication yard to verify products are being manufactured in accordance with approved designs.
• Identify fabrication deviations and coordinate corrective actions before concrete products are cast.
• Coordinate closely with detailing, production, quality, project, and field teams.
• Review and respond to RFIs, submittals, design changes, and engineering revisions throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure structural designs comply with applicable IBC, ACI, and PCI standards.
• Support value-engineering initiatives to improve structural efficiency, constructability, and cost effectiveness.
• Provide technical support during fabrication and field erection.
• Troubleshoot structural, fabrication, and constructability issues.
• Provide technical guidance and development support to detailing personnel.
• Support connection design, erection stability, lifting considerations, load paths, and other structural engineering requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering required.
• Minimum of approximately 4 years of structural engineering experience.
• Experience performing structural calculations, analysis, and design.
• Strong understanding of structural load paths and engineering fundamentals.
• Ability to review technical drawings and communicate engineering requirements to production and field personnel.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Experience designing precast or prestressed concrete structures or components.
• Experience with prestressed bridge girders, tilt-up wall panels, concrete buildings, foundations, piles, or similar structural systems.
• Knowledge of prestressed concrete behavior.
• Experience with structural connection design and erection stability.
• Familiarity with precast production, lifting design, fabrication, and erection practices.
• Experience with underground or buried structures, including soil interaction, durability, and applied loading conditions.
• Knowledge of ACI, PCI, and IBC requirements.
• Experience with structural analysis and design software such as:
  • ETABS
  • Tekla Tedds
  • Eriksson Technologies
  • Comparable structural engineering platforms

What Makes Someone Successful in This Role

The successful candidate will combine strong structural engineering fundamentals with a practical understanding of constructability. This engineer will be comfortable moving between design calculations and real-world fabrication issues while collaborating with engineers, detailers, production personnel, quality teams, and field crews.

Candidates do not need to come exclusively from the precast industry. Structural engineers with applicable experience in buildings, foundations, bridge structures, tilt-up concrete, deep foundations, or other related structural products are encouraged to apply.
