The Pre-Sales Solutions Engineer manages the technical development of customer solutions, from requirements review through final proposal. This role works with sales, customers, manufacturers, distributors, procurement, and engineering to prepare accurate configurations, bills of materials, and technical documentation.
Employment arrangement
Full-time hours, fully remote within the United States. The position begins with a six-month contract, with the possibility of conversion to permanent full-time employment. Conversion is not guaranteed.
What you will do
- Review customer requirements, RFQs, RFPs, RFIs, statements of work, and technical specifications.
- Recommend appropriate OEM products and develop solutions that meet customer requirements.
- Build and validate bills of materials (BOMs), product configurations, compatibility, accessories, and supporting components.
- Confirm software licensing, subscriptions, warranties, maintenance, support, and renewal requirements.
- Work with OEM technical teams and authorized distributors to validate configurations and identify suitable product alternatives.
- Assist with deal registrations and special-pricing requests, and review quotations for technical accuracy.
- Prepare technical proposal responses, solution descriptions, diagrams, and supporting documentation.
- Check proposed solutions against customer specifications and identify missing requirements, dependencies, and technical risks.
- Participate in customer meetings, technical presentations, and OEM or distributor discussions.
- Coordinate with sales, procurement, and engineering from discovery through final solution submission.
- Track product lifecycle changes, end-of-life and end-of-support notices, and changes to licensing models.
What you bring
- 5+ years of experience in Pre-Sales Engineering, Sales Engineering, Solutions Engineering, Solutions Architecture, or a similar technical sales role.
- Experience working with a VAR, IT reseller, systems integrator, OEM, or technology distributor.
- Experience supporting Federal, State, Local Government, Education, or Public Sector customers.
- Familiarity with government RFQs, RFPs, RFIs, SOWs, and technical solicitation requirements.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise IT hardware, software, licensing, subscriptions, support, and renewals.
- Experience developing and validating multi-OEM BOMs and technical configurations.
- Ability to work with OEMs, distributors, sales teams, customers, and technical resources.
- Strong communication, documentation, and customer-facing skills.
Preferred experience
- OEM certifications or hands-on experience in networking, cybersecurity, servers, storage, cloud platforms, or related enterprise technologies.
- Experience with Cisco, Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, Juniper, Check Point, HPE/Aruba, Dell Technologies, HP Inc., or Lenovo.
- Experience with Microsoft, Adobe, Broadcom/VMware, NetApp, Pure Storage, NVIDIA, APC/Schneider Electric, Vertiv, or similar manufacturers.
