Job summary

Equipment & Controls, Inc. is a leading Emerson Impact Partner seeking a Technical Sales Consultant. This customer-facing role partners with Account Managers, Inside Sales, and Engineering to translate customer needs into practical automation solutions involving PLCs, HMIs, networks, and drives.

The successful candidate will lead technical discussions, support proposal development, and guide opportunities from discovery through handoff to execution. Occasional travel regionally is required.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of hands-on experience in industrial automation or a related field.
• Experience with PLC platforms such as DeltaV PLC, PAC systems.
• Demonstrated experience architecting PLC-based systems.
• Ability to discuss PLC applications across multiple markets such as process control, discrete manufacturing, or OEM.
• Customer-facing experience leading technical discussions, discovery sessions, or site activities.
• Strong presentation, consulting, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Willingness to travel regionally to support sales calls and customer meetings.

Responsibilities

• Identify, qualify, and advance PLC and automation sales opportunities.
• Participate in customer site visits, control-system assessments, network walkdowns, and front-end engineering activities.
• Develop preliminary control-system architectures.
• Serve as the technical lead during pre-sales meetings, presentations, demonstrations, proposal reviews, and negotiations.
• Translate customer requirements, specifications, and drawings into clear technical assumptions and concepts.
• Act as a conduit between customers, Account Managers, Inside Sales, Engineering, and service personnel to support proposals.
• Collaborate with teams to develop BOMs, preliminary estimates, proposal scope, exclusions, assumptions, schedules, and deliverables.
• Conduct effective handoffs to Engineering and Project Management after an award.
