Job summary

Boston Eye Surgery and Laser Center is seeking an experienced registered nurse to support pre-operative and post-operative care in a fast-paced ophthalmic center. The RN must hold Massachusetts licensure and CPR/ACLS certifications, with at least one year in medical-surgical or recovery room settings.

Responsibilities include patient admission, perioperative assessments, medication prep, PACU care, discharge teaching, and coordination with anesthesia and surgeons.

Qualifications

• Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.
• Minimum of one year experience in medical-surgical or recovery room.
• CPR and ACLS certified (or willing to obtain ACLS within 3 months).
• Proficient with EPIC computer system.

Responsibilities

• Pre-operative: admits and prepares patients for surgery.
• Pre-operative: performs nursing admission assessment and notifies anesthesiologist/surgeon of abnormalities.
• Ensures all paperwork is present before meds or OR.
• Post-Operative: recovery room care and post-operative assessment.
• Explains post-operative progress and discharge instructions to patient and significant other.
• Coordinates patient discharge with anesthesia department and surgeon.
• Maintains equipment and restocks supplies in pre-op/recovery area.
• Assists with laser patients and records narcotic use as required by law.
• Maintains cooperative relationships with BESLC staff and participates in CE programs.
• Uses EPIC for documentation.
