Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Successful experience working with children.
• Two years of college experience preferred.
• If assigned to a Title I school, meet requirements for No Child Left Behind Act (CDA Certification and college coursework or degree or WorkKeys passing scores).

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher in preparing materials and equipment for direct instructional activity.
• Assist with planning and organizing supplies for lessons.
• Lead small group activities planned by the teacher.
• Support changing curriculum to meet diverse student needs.
• Maintain a clean and orderly classroom environment.
• Assist with computer lab or computer-assisted instruction.
• Supervise students as assigned.
• Maintain confidentiality of records, materials and student information.
• Assist in enforcing classroom rules and maintaining records.
• Assist in assessing student progress and proctoring tests.
• Provide instructional assistance as planned or coordinated by the teacher.
• Communicate effectively with staff, students, parents and administrators.
• Follow attendance, punctuality and dress rules.
• Adhere to safety standards and confidentiality.
• Demonstrate initiative and professional ethics.
• Maintain expertise in assigned areas to meet goals.
• Participate in training to increase skills.
• Keep supervisor informed of issues.
• Respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
• Exhibit teamwork and support for school goals.
• Identify problems or opportunities for improvement.
• Prepare reports and maintain records.
• Participate in cross-training as required.
