Job summary

Wayne State University in Detroit is seeking an experienced Academic Advisor I/II to join the University Advising Center. The advisor will support pre-health students from orientation through professional school applications, and assist with the WSU Phoenix program across multiple schools and units.

Responsibilities include one-on-one and group advising, career development support, and collaboration with colleagues to nurture student success. Evening/weekend hours may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required for Academic Advisor I. A master's degree in Counseling, Higher Ed. Leadership, Student Personnel Services, or related field required for Academic Advisor II.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate as needed and work with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with navigating pre-health curriculums and prerequisite requirements.
  • Provide advising and registration support during first-year and transfer orientation.
  • Offer group and one-on-one advising, plus career development guidance.
  • Support administration for the WSU Phoenix program, including scheduling and communications.
  • Maintain thorough notes in the STARS advising system and participate in program planning.
