Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required for Academic Services Officer I.
  • Master’s degree in counseling, higher education leadership, student affairs, or related field required for Academic Services Officer II.
  • Minimum two years in higher education, academic advising, student services, or related area.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across academic and administrative units.
  • Experience with diverse student populations.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Advocacy for student needs to support persistence and success.
  • Commitment to educational access and achievement.
  • Strong decision-making, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Occasional evening and weekend hours.
  • Excellent computer skills and adaptability to new software and SIS.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supplemental academic advising, outreach, transition support, and student-success programming for veterans and military-connected students.
  • Support daily operations of the Student Veterans Resource Center and liaison with academic departments and university offices.
  • Advise students in prep for nursing, pre-med, pre-dental, and health science pathways.
  • Maintain advising records in the STARs platform and participate in advisor trainings.
  • Support Open Houses, orientation programs, and outreach initiatives related to Gadson OMVAE and PMHSC priorities.
