Job summary

McKinstry is seeking a Pre-Construction Manager to join our Essention DER division in Minnesota. You will lead conceptual estimating, bid development, and risk management to drive successful scope, schedule, and budgets.

Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure a seamless transition from preconstruction to construction. The role requires 5–7 years in PM/engineering/construction, proficiency with scheduling tools, and experience with GC or major electrical subcontractors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in construction
• 5–7 years of experience in project management, engineering, or construction
• Familiar with scheduling software: MS Project, Primavera and/or SureTrak
• Experience with a General Contractor or major electrical subcontractor preferred
• PE, CPM, LEED designations are preferred but not required
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is required
• Proficient with construction financial programs and software; understands accounting and financial management
• Willingness to travel regionally; physical ability to navigate job sites

Responsibilities

• Identify, solicit, and manage proposals with project owners and subcontractors
• Develop conceptual estimates for projects and manage budgets from bid to handoff
• Manage scope and budgets for a portfolio of projects in bid phase through handoff
• Coordinate bid design requirements and risk opportunities to protect gross margin
• Ensure smooth transition from preconstruction to construction with project managers
• Create and review RFPs for subcontractors and scopes of work
• Monitor project forecasts and deliver timely data to stakeholders
• Develop preconstruction schedules and risk assessments to support execution
• Mentor and coach project team members; lead preconstruction planning activities
• Establish strong external partnerships with subcontractors and vendors
