Job description

What will you do?

The Preconstruction Estimator position is held by an experienced estimator who shows the willingness and desire to lead. This role is designed to be a player/coach role and will be responsible for estimating and day-to-day management duties. This position will be relied upon to actively manage the workload pipe utilizing BFO and manage the day-to-day activities in support of their assigned regions. The Preconstruction Senior will play a role in mentoring and coaching the other members of the PreCon team and be involved in the development plans of all PreCon team members. They will work with the respective pre-construction manager for HR responsibilities for the team members they oversee, who will remain a solid line to the pre-construction manager. When necessary, the Senior will actively engage in recruitment and interviewing of future team members.

Responsibilities:

1. Manage and support the day-to-day activity of local pre-con resources
2. Manage flow of work and assign to team members based on bandwidth and experience
3. Assist sales in qualification and prioritization of projects
4. Provide process and technical coaching for team members
5. Advocate for new initiatives within the PreCon organization
6. Support rollout of new initiatives and assist in communication to the local Branch team
7. Coach and mentor for new employees
8. Be the local pre-con leader to the branch business you support. Attend branch meetings (sales, path to plan, leadership) as applicable to understand branch strategy and support plans.
9. Obtain feedback from local Ops and sales teams for lessons learned and employee development.

Estimating:

1. Develop turnkey estimates for Building Automation projects
2. Prioritize assigned projects/tasks to meet sales schedules
3. Review customer specifications/drawings to ensure quotes are technically compatible and competitive
4. Understand, analyze, document, and communicate technical terms and conditions relative to company standards
5. Coordinate and verify subcontractor quotations and scopes of work
6. Develop detailed scope letters and optimal system designs
7. Attend and run pre-bid meetings and site walk-throughs for potential projects
8. Consult with operations, engineering, and sales groups throughout the tendering process; brainstorm ideas with the team to lower costs
9. Reconcile final job costs after project review meetings
10. Support sales calls as needed
11. Develop & maintain subcontractor and vendor relationships
12. After project award, effectively turnover the project to the operations team. Identify and document discrepancies in plans and specs
13. Support vendor scopes, pricing, and reporting. Job shadow and cross-train as needed
14. Complete required technical training to increase proficiency
15. Perform other duties as requested

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
• 2+ years of industry-related experience with 1+ year of estimating
• Knowledge of Building Automation Systems
