Associate Delivery Consultant at Spencer Ogden
Location: Remote - Or around offices in Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Phoenix
Start Date: May 22nd
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for utility-scale solar PV, wind, and energy storage projects during the pre-construction phase.
- Analyze project drawings, specifications, and other documents to develop a complete understanding of project scope and required materials, labor, and equipment.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes; assess proposals for scope, completeness, and cost competitiveness.
- Develop budgets and conceptual estimates at various stages of project development (feasibility, preliminary, definitive).
- Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, procurement, development) to incorporate design and procurement strategies into cost models.
- Identify and evaluate potential project risks and suggest cost-effective mitigation strategies.
- Maintain and update historical cost databases and unit pricing information.
- Assist with value engineering exercises to optimize project cost and performance.
- Prepare professional and comprehensive estimate reports for internal leadership and external clients.
- Support the business development team in RFP responses and bid proposals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3–7 years of estimating experience, preferably in utility-scale renewable energy, electrical construction, or heavy civil infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of construction means, methods, and sequencing, especially in solar, wind, and storage projects.
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., HeavyBid, InEight, RSMeans) and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Experience interpreting civil, structural, and electrical engineering plans and specifications.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills; attention to detail is critical.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of EPC contracting models and project delivery methods is a plus.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with permitting, environmental, and interconnection processes for renewable projects.
- Understanding of current market trends in renewable energy technologies and construction practices.
- Estimating experience with battery energy storage systems (BESS) is highly desirable.
