What will you do?

The Preconstruction Estimator position is held by an experienced estimator who demonstrates leadership and a desire to guide others. This role is a player/coach position responsible for estimating and managing daily activities. The individual will actively manage the workload pipeline using BFO and support their assigned regions. The Senior Preconstruction Estimator will mentor team members, participate in their development, and collaborate with the pre-construction manager on HR responsibilities. They will also be involved in recruitment and interviewing new team members.

  • Responsibilities:
  • Manage daily activities of local pre-con resources
  • Assign work based on team members' bandwidth and experience
  • Assist sales in project qualification and prioritization
  • Provide technical coaching to team members
  • Promote new initiatives within the PreCon organization
  • Support rollout and communication of new initiatives
  • Mentor new employees
  • Represent the local pre-con team at branch meetings and support branch strategies
  • Gather feedback from operations and sales for employee development

Estimating:

  • Develop turnkey estimates for Building Automation projects
  • Prioritize projects to meet sales schedules
  • Review specifications and drawings for compatibility and competitiveness
  • Analyze and communicate technical terms and conditions
  • Coordinate subcontractor quotations and scopes of work
  • Create detailed scope letters and system designs
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings and site walk-throughs
  • Collaborate with teams to lower costs
  • Reconcile project costs post-review
  • Support sales calls as needed
  • Maintain relationships with subcontractors and vendors
  • Ensure smooth project handover to operations
  • Support vendor scopes, pricing, and reporting
  • Complete technical training to improve skills

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • At least 2 years of industry experience with 1+ year in estimating
  • Knowledge of Building Automation Systems
