Job summary

Virginia Oncology Associates seeks a Practice Director to support our Norfolk office and assist all practice locations. You will lead operational policy development, patient access, medical records, and administrative workflows across multisite cancer care locations.

The role requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and travel to multiple sites as needed to ensure efficient, compliant operations and high-quality patient service.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related business field (experience may substitute for degree).
• Seven years’ experience in healthcare management, including at least three years in a supervisory role.
• Multisite medical practice operations preferred; oncology experience desirable.
• Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills; ability to collaborate in a complex healthcare environment.
• Willingness to travel to different sites as needed.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements policies, procedures, and objectives; ensures execution, compliance and updates.
• Evaluates business conditions related to operational issues and advises governing body and Executive Director.
• Advises and assists in developing organizational objectives and plans for achievement.
• Oversees development of systems to support practice-wide activities based on business need.
• Directs development and implementation of procedures and controls to promote communication and information flow.
• Leads non-clinical operational functions that support patient scheduling, documentation readiness, access processes, and admin workflows.
• Oversees centralized patient access functions for call processing and appointment scheduling.
• Provides leadership for medical records operations, ensuring timely chart preparation and document handling.
• Coordinates outside diagnostic testing in line with clinical needs and workflows.
• Ensures consistent operational support across all clinic locations and coordination between admin and clinical teams.
• Supports practice-wide initiatives and growth, including service expansion and readiness for new programs/locations.
• Identifies operational challenges, evaluates workflow needs, and implements improvements for efficiency and quality.
• Directs preparation and maintenance of management reports; prepares periodic reports.
• Ensures compliance with standards, regulatory requirements, and documentation; promotes continuous improvement.
• Ensures adherence to organizational structure and mission statements.
• Provides leadership and development to supervisory staff; fosters accountability and growth.
• Promotes a collaborative, service-oriented culture and strong cross-department communication.
