Job summary

Austin Energy, part of the City of Austin, is seeking a Power System Engineer to ensure reliability and resilience of distribution systems. You will analyze outage data, support ES RP initiatives, and develop switching instructions for load transfers during emergencies.

The role covers engineering design, system studies, and root-cause analyses, with a focus on minimizing downtime and improving grid performance. This is a hybrid role with opportunities for field collaboration in Austin, TX.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering + 5 years related experience.
• Experience with power system studies including relay coordination and fault studies.
• Knowledge of NERC, FERC, ERCOT and TX PUC standards.

Responsibilities

• Design and analyze electric utility facilities including generation, substations, transmission and distribution.
• Perform power system studies (protective relay coordination, fault studies, load flows, power quality).
• Prepare design drawings and documents for SCADA/EMS, generation, transmission and distribution.
• Investigate engineering issues; draft reports and present findings.
• Support planning and field operations; assist with energization of projects.
• Travel to multiple work sites as needed.
