Job summary

Kiewit Power Engineering is seeking a Structural Designer to join our Drafting & Design team in the Phoenix area. The role focuses on design modeling, BIM data exchange, and collaboration with Structural Design Engineers; Tekla experience is preferred, with in-house training available.

Responsibilities include coordinating with design groups, checking designs for safety and operability, developing BIM models for foundations and steel structures, mentoring junior staff, and resolving design

Qualifications

• Minimum of a 2-year technical school degree related to CAD and at least 4 years of structural design experience.
• Experience or coursework in BIM (Building Information Modeling) preferred.
• Ability to interpret multi-discipline engineering and vendor documents.
• Displays leadership to monitor peers in drafting and design.
• Basic knowledge of current computer operating systems.
• Effective written and verbal communication with team members and disciplines.
• Knowledge of spreadsheets, databases, and word processing programs.
• Ability to professionally represent Kiewit Engineering & Design Co. to owners, contractors, vendors and others.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with design group team members to review and exchange project information required for design and development.
• Check design for consistency, safety, operability and maintenance requirements before submitting to checking.
• Reports task progress to Lead Designer.
• Gathers information and collaborates with engineers and multiple disciplines to develop BIM models for foundations and steel structures.
• Leverages Building Information Modeling (BIM) to create plans, drawings, and details.
• Assist in the development of department standards and tools.
• Mentor other team members in design and modeling techniques.
• Resolve design issues effectively with input from responsible engineer.
