Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in Hopewell, VA, seeks an Operations Management Controller (OMC) to lead maintenance and production support. You will ensure asset reliability, coordinate shutdowns, prioritize work orders, and drive safety and quality improvements across the mill.

The role requires strong communication, a background in mill processes, and experience with JDE and MS Office tools. A bachelor's or engineering degree with relevant experience is preferred; excellent development opportunities are

Qualifications

• Good oral and written communications skills.
• Fundamental understanding of mill processes affecting power and recovery operations; 5+ years of operational experience; engineering degree or Bachelor degree with equivalent experience.
• Extensive experience with JDE, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and MS Project.
• Familiar with statistical process control.
• Knowledge of maintenance management principles including preventive maintenance, root-cause analysis, shutdown/contingency planning, and CMMS; able to work with maintenance teams.

Responsibilities

• Ensure accident-free and safe work environment by managing safety backlog and maintaining a zero quarterly backlog.
• Lead and coordinate Production and Maintenance activities to deliver operational excellence and manage backlogs.
• Keep planned work order backlog aligned with guidelines and schedule daily/weekly work.
• Prioritize and approve break-in or emergency work.
• Screen and approve all work orders for asset area; ensure quality and accurate descriptions.
• Serve as project originator for maintenance capital; write FEP 1 documentation.
• Be a technical resource for solving chronic and repeat failures with reliability engineers.
• Plan installation/startup of new equipment to minimize disruption to operations.
• Develop and maintain detailed on-the-job training manuals for department tasks.
• Guarantee customer quality expectations and support mill quality initiatives.
• Provide leadership, development, and training.
• Ensure financial wellbeing of company/site/department.
