Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) in the United States seeks a Plant Engineer to provide technical leadership and engineering support for safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation. You will monitor performance, diagnose issues, and drive improvements across operations and maintenance.

The role requires expertise in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and data-driven decision making, with a focus on regulatory compliance (NERC, pressure systems) and safety.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree required with 2+ years related experience, or military equivalent.
• Master’s degree in engineering may be considered for entry at Sr. level.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering support for plant operations and maintenance by diagnosing issues and implementing corrective actions.
• Perform structured troubleshooting and root cause analysis to improve reliability.
• Monitor plant operating data to identify performance gaps and improvement opportunities.
• Support reliability and condition monitoring programs (vibration, thermography, oil analysis, controls diagnostics).
• Maintain configuration control and ensure documentation accuracy and regulatory compliance.
• Coordinate capital projects and maintenance activities with vendors and internal teams.
