Job summary

Calpine, America's largest generator of electricity from natural gas and geothermal resources, is seeking an assistant in plant operations to start/stop pumps, monitor performance, and support electrical/instrumentation maintenance.

The role includes recording data, troubleshooting, maintaining logs, and assisting with turbine/generator operation and switchyard tasks, with emphasis on safety, regulatory compliance, and efficient unit output.

Qualifications

Requires a High School Diploma, degree from technical/vocational school or equivalent.
Zero to four years of related experience.
Prefer some previous experience using test equipment and calibration appliances. Additional experience with machinery repair and control systems preferred.

Responsibilities

Assists in the operation of plant equipment, starts and stops pumps and auxiliary equipment, checks and ensures proper lubrication and cooling on pumps, motors, fans, compressors, etc.
Takes and records plant operational data; inspects equipment for faults and performs routine maintenance.
Performs troubleshooting, calibration, and adjustments to electrical, instrumentation, and control systems to maintain unit performance.
Assists in synchronizing turbine/generator units and in switching operations per orders.
Maintains logs and ensures compliance with safety and regulatory procedures.
