A leading healthcare organization is seeking a Power Plant Mechanic responsible for steam generation and maintenance of boilers and chillers. The role includes monitoring equipment, ensuring compliance, and overseeing contractor work. Candidates must have relevant certifications and experience, with a valid driver's license. This position requires on-site work at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and may involve call shifts and rotating weekends.
The Power Plant Mechanic is responsible for all phases of steam generation and maintenance of boilers, chillers, and auxiliary equipment. Responsibilities include monitoring power plant equipment; reading and interpreting control circuits, schematics, diagrams, blueprints, and specifications to ensure proper operation. The individual tests, maintains, and repairs power plant equipment while overseeing contractor work to ensure quality and code compliance.
Required certifications include Refrig Recovery Cert Type II or Universal certification; Type III preferred. A valid Driver's License is necessary. Most facilities require a Backflow Prevention Device tester's license. For positions at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center, a Power Plant Operating Engineer 3rd Class or Third Class Stationary Engineer certification by the District of Columbia is preferred.
