Job summary

NRG Energy's Control Room Operator role focuses on safe, efficient generation of electricity and steam through field duties and control-room operations. You’ll monitor systems, manage startup/shutdown, and ensure continuous service with disciplined adherence to safety and process controls.

The position requires operating HMIs, following LOTO procedures, maintaining logs, and advancing through a structured training pathway from Plant Operator to Control Room Operator within defined milestones.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Plant Operator in an operating/generating plant.
• Willingness to complete the Control Room Operator qualification card and progression milestones.
• Degree or certificate from a technical/vocational program preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate, inspect, and monitor power plant equipment to maintain safe and reliable performance.
• In the control room, manage HMIs/panels, startup/shutdown, and load control; interpret alarms and operate safely.
• Maintain CRO/shift logs, respond to dispatcher orders, and assist with plant improvements per procedures.
