Job summary

Prairie State Energy Campus in Illinois seeks a Chemical Engineer for a coal-fired power plant. You will be accountable for chemical systems including ammonia, boiler cycle chemistry, absorber chemistry, fuel, flue gas, condensate polishing, and water treatment support.

The role requires coordinating repairs, working with mechanical and electrical engineers, and supporting environmental testing. Training includes 10 weeks shadowing operations; travel during outages may be required.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Chemical Engineering required.
• 5 years’ water chemistry experience preferred.
• Strong communication and organizational skills required.

Responsibilities

• Complete 10 weeks of training shadowing an operations shift to learn how the plant operates.
• Coordinate with vendors to optimize chemical injection rates for reliability and cost.
• Oversee maintenance/repair projects to maintain or improve plant reliability.
• Manage outage budgets and schedules during planned/unplanned outages.
• Lead RCFA & FMEA processes for listed systems to ensure timely corrective actions.
• Develop/Review Preventative Maintenance activities aligned with RCM philosophy.
• Provide project management for outages with budgets and contractor oversight.
• Train maintenance and operations personnel in reliable, safe maintenance methods.
• Maintain inspections, testing, and history records for the facility.
• Maintain regular attendance.
