Job summary

Xcel Energy offers a paid internship at multiple Minnesota (and Wisconsin) plants to support Energy Supply Base Capital Engineering Projects. You will gain hands-on experience in project management, learn plant systems, read P&ID diagrams, and present to senior leadership.

The program targets ABET-accredited electrical, mechanical, civil, or chemical engineering students (Sophomore or higher) and requires full‑time summer availability with a hybrid policy and potential extension depending on

Qualifications

Currently enrolled as a Sophomore or higher in an ABET-accredited college or university pursuing Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical engineering or related program.
Able to commute to Becker, MN; Mankato, MN; Red Wing, MN; LaCrosse, WI; or Ashland, WI.
Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours/week) or part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours/week).

Responsibilities

Assist project engineers at power plants with project management and execution.
Learn to read piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&ID’s) and electrical schematics to support projects.
Learn to use project planning and budgeting systems.
