Job summary

Xcel Energy in Becker, MN invites qualified students to join the Performance Optimization Organization in the Reliability Engineering department at the Sherco Generating Plant. This paid internship offers real-world engineering experience, hands-on training, and collaboration with internal teams to support plant projects, performance analysis, emissions control, and equipment specification.

Qualifications

• Current student enrolled in an ABET-accredited program and pursuing a degree in electrical, mechanical, civil, or chemical engineering.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) or part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commute to the Sherco Generating Plant in Becker, MN, per hybrid policy.

Responsibilities

• Working with Engineering staff to support plant projects (capital and ops/maintenance).
• Performance/efficiency analysis.
• Emissions control.
• Contract and project management.
• Specifying new and replacement equipment.
• Making process improvement recommendations.
• Supporting technical requests from operations and maintenance.
