Job summary

SMUD’s Power Operations Engineering team seeks an operations engineer to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant transmission and generation operations for SMUD and the BANC area. Journey-level role with opportunities to grow into senior responsibilities and to support EIM operations.

The candidate will perform reliability analyses, contingency evaluations, and real-time operations support, collaborating across internal teams while adhering to NERC/WECC standards. Hybrid work arrangements may apply.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 3+ years of experience in power operations engineering or transmission planning.
• Solid understanding of power system operation and reliability standards (NERC/WECC).

Responsibilities

• Ensure reliability and security of SMUD’s bulk power system and BANC area.
• Support transmission reliability studies, power flow studies, and contingency analyses.
• Provide real-time EIM operations support and inter-utility coordination.
• Develop and maintain SOPs for bulk power system operations.
• Occasionally work outside standard hours as needed.
