Job summary

Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) seeks a Principal Electrical Engineer to provide leadership in electrical design for facility life cycle projects, ensuring compliance with NERC and regulatory standards. You will guide multi-disciplinary teams, oversee contracts, and support T&D operations across the Balancing Authority and Transmission Operator functions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
• 7+ years of progressively responsible electrical design/maintenance experience.
• Knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design and construction for facility life cycle replacements, upgrades and modifications.
• Manage the contract lifecycle including RFPs, bid evaluation, and award decisions.
• Drive regulatory compliance documentation and adherence to codes/regulations.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated project delivery.
• Plan, coordinate and oversee internal and external projects and schedules.
• Develop electrical operations procedures (MOPs/SOOs) for crafts and trades personnel.
• Perform short circuit/coordination studies and arc flash analysis with tools like SKM/ETAP.
