Job summary

S&B is seeking a Mechanical Design professional for power generation facilities, covering all phases of design with independent judgment on standard methods. This role requires strong knowledge in mechanical, process, and thermal design, and experience with piping, P&IDs, and typical power plant equipment.

Candidate should have a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (ABET) and 7+ years related experience, including familiarity with standards like ASME, API, and HEI.

Qualifications

• Requires a minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in mechanical / process / thermal design or related functional area.
• Experience with piping design, sizing, stress analysis, routing, and pipe supports; valve design and selection.
• Proficiency with ASME Piping Codes (B31.1, B31.3), API recommended practices for rotating equipment and fixed equipment; experience with HEI, PIP, HF, NFPA, FM Global, AWWA.
• Familiarity with heat and material balances to create P&IDs, PFDs and related symbols.
• Experience with power plant instrumentation and control systems, including NFPA 85.

Responsibilities

• Prepares basic design sketches and calculations for sizing and selection of mechanical equipment for power generation facilities and thermal islands.
• Interprets heat and material balances to create P&IDs / PFDs for a project.
• Participates in reviews of P&IDs / PFDs and communicates with clients’ technical staff.
• Conducts field trips to existing plants to gather operating data and equipment information.
• Develops equipment data sheets for power plant equipment (pumps, fans, blowers, turbines, boilers, condensers, heat exchangers, HRSG).
• Reviews and develops design guides, specifications, and project documentation.
