Dahl Consulting is recruiting for a Power BI / Fabric Platform Engineer to support a large enterprise retail analytics environment. This remote, 12-month contract focuses on platform engineering and governance rather than report development.

You will design, configure, operate, and automate Power BI and Fabric services, emphasizing security, access control, and scalable processes across the organization.

Qualifications

Compensation: $90.00 - $131.00 per hour (W2)

About the Role

Our firm is recruiting on behalf of a large enterprise retail organization that operates a complex, cloud-based analytics ecosystem. The organization relies on modern business intelligence and data platforms to support enterprise-scale reporting, governance, and decision-making across multiple business functions. We are seeking a Power BI / Fabric Platform Engineer to help engineer, administer, and optimize a large-scale Power BI and Microsoft Fabric environment. This position focuses on platform engineering, administration, governance, automation, and operational support rather than report development. The ideal candidate has experience managing enterprise analytics platforms, troubleshooting complex technical issues, and partnering with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable data solutions.

Job Description

As a Power BI / Fabric Platform Engineer, you will support the design, configuration, operation, and continuous improvement of an enterprise Power BI and Microsoft Fabric platform. The environment utilizes a Google BigQuery-first architecture, with Power BI primarily leveraging DirectQuery connections while maintaining strict identity management and data access controls aligned with enterprise governance standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, configure, administer, and enhance Power BI and Microsoft Fabric platform capabilities.
  • Develop and maintain governance models for tenants, workspaces, capacities, deployments, and access controls.
  • Automate platform operations, including workspace provisioning, role management, and environment setup.
  • Improve platform monitoring, logging, diagnostics, alerting, and operational readiness processes.
  • Support capacity planning, performance optimization, and load testing for large-scale DirectQuery workloads.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues involving Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, identity management, connectivity, and data access.
  • Collaborate with cloud infrastructure, identity and access management (IAM), security, and data platform teams.
  • Create reusable engineering patterns, documentation, operational procedures, and runbooks.
  • Support onboarding of new business teams and improve onboarding processes through automation.
  • Work directly with end users and stakeholders to resolve technical issues and improve platform adoption.
  • Contribute to platform engineering initiatives based on evolving business priorities.
Qualifications Required
  • Hands-on experience administering and supporting Power BI and Microsoft Fabric platforms.
  • Strong experience with Power BI tenant administration, workspace governance, capacity management, and platform operations.
  • Experience supporting enterprise platforms, infrastructure, or shared services environments.
  • Proficiency with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and BigQuery.
  • Experience with Microsoft Entra ID, identity management, authentication, authorization, or access governance.
  • Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and systems-thinking skills across multiple technologies.
  • Experience with platform automation, scripting, or infrastructure-as-code concepts.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work within highly governed enterprise environments with complex security and compliance requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Google Looker.
  • Experience with OAuth, Single Sign-On (SSO), identity federation, or enterprise IAM solutions.
  • Experience with Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools.
  • Knowledge of cross-cloud architectures and cloud platform integrations.
  • Experience with Power BI APIs, administrative automation, performance testing, or capacity monitoring.
  • Familiarity with enterprise-scale analytics, reporting, and data platform operations.
