Job summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking a full-time post-doctoral research fellow in the Harris Orthopaedics Laboratory at 80 Blossom Street, Boston. The role emphasizes materials science, antibacterial devices, and translational orthopaedic research to improve patient outcomes.

The candidate will lead in vitro and in vivo studies, develop models of periprosthetic joint infection, and collaborate with engineers on device formulation and preclinical testing at a leading academic medical center.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Biological Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences or Biomedical Engineering required.
• Strong background in Microbiology and Molecular Biology.
• Experience in host-pathogen transcriptomics preferred.

Responsibilities

• Establish monomicrobial and polymicrobial cultures related to musculoskeletal infections.
• Physically and biochemically characterize bacteria ( planktonic and biofilms ).
• Characterize antibiotic resistance, tolerance, and virulence.
• Culture cells and perform molecular assays.
• Molecular characterization of pathogens and host responses (DNA/RNA extraction, RT-PCR, RNA-Seq).
• Advanced microscopy including fluorescence, confocal, live imaging and SEM/TEM.
• Bacterial transcriptomics and biosinformatics analyses for biofilm studies.
• Study host-pathogen interactions in vitro and in vivo models.
• Support drug susceptibility testing and anticolonization studies.
• Design and develop in vitro periprosthetic joint infection models; assist preclinical studies.
• Supervise biomedical research engineers and collaborate on device formulation and safety studies.
