Job summary

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) invites applications for a postdoctoral research scientist in the Battery Materials & Systems Group, Energy & Environment Directorate. The role focuses on designing, synthesizing MOFs, COFs, and functional polymers for energy storage applications.

Qualifications

• PhD obtained within the last 5 years (60 months) or within 8 months of completion
• PhD in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, polymer science or related fields preferred
• Experience with design/synthesis of MOFs, COFs, and/or functional polymers
• Strong problem-solving skills in synthetic chemistry and electrochemistry; ability to work independently; experience in energy storage applications is a plus
• Experience evaluating ion- and charge-transport mechanisms in frameworks or polymers; publication record is a plus

Responsibilities

• Design, synthesize, and characterize MOFs/COFs and polymers for energy storage
• Collaborate across projects to tune building-block chemistry, framework topology, pore environment, and functional groups
• Prepare manuscripts for publication and present work at conferences
• Develop new ideas for funded research and evaluate structure–property relationships
