Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories is seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee to synthesize, characterize, and test nanoporous materials with a focus on metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Join a multidisciplinary R&D team and pursue independent research contributing to national security and energy priorities.

Responsibilities include MOF synthesis, post-synthetic modification, gas adsorption studies, and advanced characterization (XRD, SEM/TEM, BET, TGA/DSC, NMR).

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field conferred within five years prior to employment
• A strong track record of scientific and/or technical achievements through publication and external presentations
• Research experience in synthesizing and characterizing nanoporous materials
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance

Responsibilities

• Synthesize MOFs, zeolites, and other nanoporous materials
• Perform post synthetic modifications and test gas adsorption and selectivity
• Characterize materials using XRD, porosity measurements, TGA/DSC, SEM/TEM, XRF, IR/Raman, UV-Vis, and NMR
• Analyze data to understand structure-property relationships under various conditions
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and present findings
• Prepare and publish research in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences
