Job summary

Palm Beach State College is seeking a Post Secondary Advisor to provide comprehensive student advisement and coordinate program activities. You will support operations, assist with eligible participant selection, and deliver counseling to low-income, potential first-generation students to help them reach their educational goals.

The role involves outreach, workshops, and a fluctuating schedule including nights and weekends.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree is required.
• One year of related experience preferred.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Advise students on course of study, offerings, testing and prerequisites.
• Guide students on financial aid options and coordinate referrals.
• Develop and deliver outreach initiatives and workshops.
• Assist with recruitment, registration and programs monitoring.
• Maintain relationships with community partners to support PBSC goals.
• Travel to trainings and events as needed.

About This Role

Responsible for providing comprehensive student advisement and coordinating program related activities. Supports program operations and assists with identifying and selecting eligible participants. Delivers educational, vocational, and personal counseling to low-income students who are potential first-generation college attendees. Guides students academically, administers assessments, and facilitates referrals to support students in achieving their educational goals. Conducts targeted outreach initiatives and organizes academic and professional development workshops. This position requires working a fluctuating schedule, including nights and weekends. This is a grant-funded position. Continued employment is contingent upon grant funding.

What a day of a Post Secondary Advisor looks like

• Advises students on course of study, course offerings, necessary testing, and prerequisites.
• Guides students and staff and answer questions regarding financial aid programs.
• Serves as liaison on special projects.
• Assists students in selecting a major or program. Assists in understanding educational, personal, and occupational strengths and limitations.
• Develops and maintains positive relations with the community to promote College partnerships and collaboration.
• Qualifies, registers, and monitors students in recruitment and retention programs.
• Assists students with issues utilizing a variety of formats such as in-person, phone, email, and online chat. Assists students with registration paperwork and registration on the system.
• Analyzes test results and identifies areas requiring further attention.
• Coordinates or assists with implementing the program’s goals, objectives, and evaluation procedures.
• Maintains current knowledge of field or profession. Travels to training workshops, conferences, meetings, and professional association events outside college locations as needed.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree

• Regular physical attendance required
• Valid Florida driver’s license
