About this role

Responsible for leadership and management of the student services department. Ensures all student activities and wellness center functions are executed in accordance with policies, regulations, guidelines, and standards. Cultivates a campus climate that promotes academic achievement, professional growth, and personal development. Identifies needs, develops plans and projections, and collaborates with stakeholders to ensure the attainment of department and College goals, objectives, and development initiatives.

What a day of an Assistant Dean looks like:

  • Develops, implements, and administers cocurricular and extracurricular educational activities. Oversees student events and travel in conjunction with student clubs and organizations.

  • Directs workshops regarding College and program information requirements. Addresses requests from parents and students regarding programs, transfers, complaints, and discipline.

  • Oversees the campus student disciplinary process and adjudicates cases.

  • Supervises the administration of various tests. Ensures the security and confidentiality of College, State, and National tests and records, scoring procedures, data collection, and reporting.

  • Oversees the design, development and administration of campus programs and operations to ensure student success. Evaluates the effectiveness of programs.

  • Develops and strengthens relationships with campus service providers and works collaboratively to ensure successful outcomes. Meets regularly with internal and external stakeholders to discuss strategy, elements, and report on progress.

  • Prepares, negotiates, and manages contracts and agreements with external agencies and vendors. This does not include grant contracts and labor negotiating.

  • Maintains current knowledge of field and profession. Travels to training workshops, conferences, meetings and professional association events outside of college locations as needed.

  • Guides, leads, reviews, verifies, observes, and manages the work of direct and indirect reports. Monitors and evaluates the performance of employees.

  • Monitors expenditures in assigned budget and holds appropriate parties accountable for financial practices that promote sound fiscal management.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree

  • Four years of related experience

  • Supervisory experience

Knowledge of:

  • Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications

Skilled in:

  • Thinking strategically, effectively analyzing data, and implementing data-informed decisions

  • Managing and resolving conflict in a positive manner

  • Analyzing relevant information to solve problems

  • Attention to detail while maintaining effective time and task management

Ability to:

  • Interact in a positive manner with diverse populations and varying education levels of students, faculty, staff, and the public

  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing on a regular basis with internal and external customers, build relationships, manage customer expectations and take responsibility for a high level of service

  • Create a collegial, team-building work environment, motivating staff, and cultivating productive, collaborative relationships with all constituent groups

Licenses, Registration, Certifications, or Special Requirements:

  • Regular physical attendance required

  • Must complete FERPA training within 30 days of employment
