It’s home to 42 academic departments, three affiliated schools, 8,000 undergraduate and graduate students, 20 research centers and more than 500 full-time faculty—including Fulbright and Guggenheim scholars, award-winning artists, cutting-edge scientists and critically acclaimed authors.

This position is for a postdoctoral researcher in experimental nuclear physics, who will manage George Washington’s contribution (through the Jefferson Lab Group, PIs Dr. Axel Schmidt, Dr. William Briscoe, Dr. Igor Strakovsky) to the K-Long Facility (KLF) upgrade and experiments at Jefferson Lab. The candidate will help coordinate the development of software and simulation tools, including building an implementation of KLF in the Hall D simulation suite, tuning Monte Carlo event generators, developing reconstruction tools, and organizing KLF’s software repository. The candidate will also develop new physics channels for consideration and assist with Jefferson Lab’s ongoing experimental efforts as part of the CLAS and GlueX collaborations. The candidate will be based either at the VSTC (Virginia Campus) or Jefferson Lab (Foggy Bottom, DC) as needed.

Duties

  • KLF Software Repository Management
  • Implementing KLF into Hall D Simulation Framework
  • Developing Event Reconstruction Tools for a pulsed, un-tagged beam
  • Developing a prospective analysis channel for KLF data
  • Assisting with other group efforts at GlueX and CLAS

Minimum Qualifications

Qualified candidates will hold a Doctoral degree or comparable doctoral degree in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in experimental nuclear or particle physics, or a related field.
  • Software development experience, particularly with Monte Carlo simulations, is preferred.
