Job summary

APTIM seeks a Port Services Project Engineer to join our maritime engineering team, focusing on inspections, analysis, and design of cranes, piers, and port infrastructure along the Southeast. You’ll collaborate with structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers to deliver practical, constructible solutions for clients.

The role combines office design with field investigations, offering growth across a technically diverse portfolio.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred, or ability to obtain licensure within 12 months of hire.
  • 10+ years of progressive structural or mechanical engineering experience with emphasis on steel/concrete design or mechanical system designs.
  • Experience with cranes, waterfront structures, or heavy industrial/marine infrastructure strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis and design software such as RISA, Mathcad, and AutoCAD; familiarity with Bluebeam and Autodesk Construction Cloud a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate analyses into practical repair/design solutions and prepare inspection reports.

Responsibilities

  • Report to Port Services Project Director and support port projects across the Southeast.
  • Perform structural/mechanical inspections of cranes and waterfront structures to assess condition and deficiencies.
  • Develop repair, retrofit, and new design drawings and calculations for steel/concrete structures.
  • Perform structural analysis using RISA/Mathcad/AutoCAD and participate in design reviews.
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure deliverables meet scope, schedule, and quality goals.
  • Participate in field work ~10–25% travel with safety in industrial environments.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated port and crane engineering solutions.
  • Support digital inspection methods and data-driven maintenance initiatives.
