Job summary

APTIM is seeking a Port Services Project Engineer to join our team in the Southeast, with opportunities in Mobile, AL, New Orleans, or No Florida. You will inspect and design structural and mechanical systems for cranes, piers, and waterfront facilities, collaborating with engineers across disciplines to deliver practical, constructible solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering required.
• P.E. license preferred, or ability to obtain within 12 months.
• 10+ years of progressive structural or mechanical engineering experience.
• Experience with cranes, waterfront structures or heavy marine infra preferred.
• Proficiency with RISA, Mathcad, AutoCAD; familiarity with Bluebeam and Autodesk Construction Cloud a plus.
• Strong written communication and ability to translate analyses into repair/design solutions.
• Willingness to travel 10–25% and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Inspect cranes, piers, wharves, and port facilities to assess condition and propose repairs.
• Develop detailed drawings and calculations for steel and concrete structures.
• Perform structural analysis using RISA, Mathcad, and AutoCAD; support design reviews.
• Coordinate with project managers to ensure scope, schedule, and quality.
• Engage with clients and deliver technical scopes, cost estimates, and schedules.
• Mentor junior engineers and inspection staff as the office expands.
