Job summary

APTIM seeks a Port Services Project Engineer to join our team in New Orleans, LA, with options for Mobile, AL or Florida locations. You will inspect, analyze, and design structural systems for cranes, piers, wharves, and other port infrastructure, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and supporting digital inspection initiatives.

You’ll develop repair and retrofit drawings, perform analyses with RISA/Mathcad/AutoCAD, and prepare technical reports and scopes. Travel is 10–25% as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering required.
• PE license preferred or obtainable within 12 months of hire.
• 10+ years in structural or mechanical engineering with steel/concrete design.
• Experience with cranes, waterfront structures or heavy marine infra preferred.
• Proficiency in RISA, Mathcad, AutoCAD; familiarity with Bluebeam and Autodesk Construction Cloud.
• Strong technical writing and communication skills.
• Travel about 10–25% as needed.
• Primary work location in New Orleans, LA.

Responsibilities

• Report to Port Services Project Director and support port projects in the Southeast.
• Inspect cranes, waterfront structures, and port assets to assess condition and propose repairs.
• Develop repair, retrofit, and new design drawings for steel and concrete structures.
• Perform structural analysis using RISA, Mathcad, and AutoCAD; assist in design reviews.
• Collaborate with project managers to meet scope, schedule, and quality.
• Engage with client managers and staff for ongoing work coordination.
• Contribute to proposals, scopes, costs, and schedules.
• Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, and geotechnical teams.
• Support digital inspection and data-driven asset management initiatives.
• Balance office design with field work; travel 10–20% in the Southeast.
